USER CONDUCT GUIDE

FOR THE ELEANOR LONDON CÔTE SAINT-LUC PUBLIC LIBRARY

 

The Côte Saint-Luc Public Library is a welcoming space shared by people of diverse ages and backgrounds.  We ask that you respect the staff, other users, the space, and its resources ensuring a positive experience for all.

 

RESPECT FOR OTHERS

  • Speak and work quietly.  Check zone signage for appropriate levels. Sleeping is not permitted.

  • Set your mobile device to vibrate or mute. Quiet cell phone use is permitted except in designated Silent Zones. 

  • Wear headphones when listening to audio on your device.

  • Use respectful language. Abusive, foul, discriminatory, violent, or harassing language or behaviour towards fellow library patrons or library staff will not be tolerated.

  • Notices may be posted in the Library Café. Canvassing, soliciting, or distributing material is not permitted.

  • Get permission before taking photographs, filming or recording other library users or staff.  Photographing, filming, or recording children is not permitted without prior permission from parents or guardians.

  • Service dogs are welcome in the Library. Other dogs must be carried at all times. 

  • Wear appropriate attire including shirts and footwear.

  • View library-appropriate material on your device.  Viewing sexually explicit or violent images is not permitted in the Library.

  • Report disruptive behaviour such as running or roughhousing to Library staff.

 

SECURITY AND SAFETY

  • Attend to and always supervise the children in your care. Leaving children 8 years old or younger in the Library unsupervised is not permitted.

  • Keep your belongings with you as the Library is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

  • The use or sale of alcohol, cigarettes (including electronic cigarettes) or drugs is not permitted.

  • Only use entrances, exits, and areas designated for the public.

  • Leave the premises promptly upon request by Library Staff.

  • Park bicycles outside.  Small items such as scooters, skateboards may be brought in if carried.  Remove rollerblades and refrain from using wheeled footwear.

  • Leave the building immediately in case of fire alarm or other emergencies.

  • Follow all municipal, provincial and federal laws, policies, codes, rules and regulations.

 

RESPECT FOR LIBRARY PREMISES, MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

  • Enjoy dry snacks and covered drinks in the Library except near any computer equipment.  Meals must be consumed in the Café.

  • Use the garbage and recycling bins provided.

  • Check out library material before exiting the library.  Allow inspection of personal bags when requested by Library staff.

  • Use the Library and its materials, equipment, furniture as intended and with respect and care.  Do not block access to exits or collection, touch any artworks or bring library materials into washrooms.

 

GENERAL SANCTIONS

Failure to comply with the Library’s User Conduct Guide may lead to one or more of the following sanctions: receipt of a verbal or written warning, an immediate expulsion from the Library premises, a suspension of Library privileges, a report to the Police depending on the gravity of the violation.
