Since 1986, the library’s Art Gallery has been a public resource dedicated to engaging, stimulating, and enriching our community through visual art.

Artist Statement

A Concordia graduate in painting and drawing, I count 1950s comics and 1960s comix among my earliest influences. I use drawings and photographs as the basis of my paintings, working in layers and glazes until the forms begin to suggest something of the absurdity and pathos of contemporary life, then using negative space to refine the image.

Artis t Selection

The library selects exhibits of professional artists for the Art Gallery. An artist is considered professional when he or she makes a living from artistic practice. Criteria used for selecting professional artist exhibits include:

• artistic excellence
• diversity in æsthetic practices
• thoroughly-researched concepts
