Call for Submissions
Our annual call for submissions takes place from March 15 to May 1.
Proposals must be submitted online and include the following:
- A biography outlining the artist's background including past exhibits.
- A list of the artworks to be displayed including the dimensions.
- Five high resolution photos of the original artwork proposed for the exhibit.
- An artist statement.
- Link to online presence.
The Library reserves the right to schedule special exhibits at its discretion.
Admissibility
The applicant must be a Côte Saint-Luc resident, be a library member or have ties to Côte Saint-Luc. Other applicants of local interest will be considered if space remains.
The artist must not have been part of an Art Gallery exhibit in the previous past 5 years.
Selection Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated by the Art Gallery Committee.
Criteria used for selecting artists exhibits include:

Artistic excellence.

Diversity in aesthetic practices.

Research, originality and relevance.

Professionalism and experience.

Compatibility with the Library’s vision, mission and values.

Appropriateness for a public library environment.

Suitability for the gallery space.
The Library retains the right to determine the suitability and acceptance of any proposed exhibit. In addition, it reserves the right to reject any part of an exhibit or request additional pieces.
The decision of the Art Gallery Committee is final.
Acceptance
The artist will be notified if accepted by June 1 and be offered a time slot. Duration of the exhibits are 8 weeks.
Art Gallery Exhibit Agreement
The artist must sign the Art Gallery Exhibit Agreement. This contract outlines the rights and responsibilities of each of the parties.
Insurance
Insurance is provided for items appraised at over $10,000 provided the Art Loan Form is completed. For items under $10,000, the artist must provide their own insurance. The Library reserves the right to request an appraisal for any exhibited item.
Sales
Works may be offered for sale. The Library does not act as an intermediary and buyers must approach the artist directly. The Library does not apply a commission to the sale of any items covered by this policy although donations are always appreciated.
Publicity
The Library will publicize the exhibit with a poster in the library and announce the exhibit on the library’s website and on Facebook. Any additional publicity is the responsibility of the artist.
Art Appreciation and Education
The Library may offer an artist the opportunity to illuminate the exhibit by organizing Artist Talk or a Meet the Artist event.
