West End Quilters
In the Art Gallery until April 29, 2025.
Mission Statement: Share our passion, expand our horizons, and serve our community.
Founded in 1987, West End Quilters guild is home to quilters of every genre. We make traditional bed quilts for ourselves, our families and friends, and baby quilts for children and grandchildren. We celebrate with wedding quilts and grieve with quilts in memory of those who have passed. We work by hand, by machine and in combinations of both.
We are adventurous in our quilting. We try our hand at Kawandi quilting, at Sashiko, and at making handbags. We may follow the principles of the Modern Quilting Movement, unwind with meditative slow stitching, create a wall hanging with fabrics purchased on vacation, enhance our work with colourful big stitching or venture into the realm of 3 dimensions. We produce Art Quilts full of embroidery, buttons, beads and other embellishments. We use our work to draw attention to social issues. We donate creations such as holiday cards, love bug pillows, pillowcases and quilts to various local organizations. We are proud to make Quilts of Valour for Canadian veterans.
The guild is a place where we hone our skills, share our expertise and learn from beginners and experts alike. Workshops, yearly challenges and making quilts for community organizations are all part of our program. We meet twice a month, except in the summer.
With this show we are giving you a peek into our guild, providing a sampling of how we express ourselves. We hope you enjoy it.
